BMW Isetta 300 3-wheeler

We found this little gem at the local BMW dealer in Daisy Hill. It's a BMW Isetta 300.
The Isetta was first built by Italian refrigerator manufacturers Iso SpA. They began manufacturing the 3-wheeler, and called it Isetta. They built it so they could use a refrigerator door of which they had plenty. Other companies then made the car under license as was BMW.

The owner of the local BMW dealership at Daisy Hill found this model in England, bought it and brought it back to Australia. It still runs, but is not for sale.

  2. It does slightly remind me of a refrigerator, circa the 1950s.

  5. Well I suppose a "skinny" person with limited baggage would fit - but no thanks! Oh, do you drive this "thing" on the road or on the footpath? To me it would be nothing less than a hazard on the major highways, bordering on the "pest" degree. How in hells name would a large container truck driver see that thing? I agree with " Three Rivers, Michigan" a refrigator of the 1950''s, and I can't recall any of those being declared "road worthy".
Still, interesting to view, but quite stupid to be let loose!

  7. I remember very well the Isettas when I lived in Bonn (Germany) as a child. Lots of people had them. It was the first car which was not too expensive for the middle class to buy, lol !

  8. I love this little car. It reminds me of one my sister had years ago. I think it was a Fiat and you had to double-declutch it, which I could never get the hang of so I kangaroo hopped all the way from Birmingham to her small village. She wouldn't let me drive it again :)

  11. I remember my mum having one when i was a kid in England. It was called a 'Bubble car' I remember we didn't have much money & it was a cheap second car. My two main memories of it were both of us willing it up a big hill near our house every time we went up it & breaking down a lot!
