Historic Ormiston House

We visited Ormiston House today with the University of the 3rd Age Camera Club we both belong to. It is a historical House open on weekends and on special occasions.

Historic Ormiston House was the home of Australian sugar industry pioneer, Captain Louis Hope. It is regarded as one of the finest examples of colonial architecture in Queensland. The House dates back to 1862, has spacious grounds and gardens, and expansive views overlooking Moreton Bay. Ormiston House has been meticulously restored and furnished with authentic period pieces.

  7. To Callie, Unfortunately we weren't allowed to take photos inside the house, but we bought a book. I (or Diane) might scan some pictures and make a special post, it is worth it.

  8. It is quite beautiful, Bill...reminds me a bit of our Florida "cracker" houses from the 1920s...which had big wrap around porches...

Re your comment on The Villages DP: Yes, those are what they call golf cars (not carts!). The Villages is a golf car town and you can drive them on most roads (on main public roads, though, you must have a "street legal" golf car which involves lights and horns and turn signals and they must go faster than normal golf cars.

In The Villages you'll find some very expensive and fancy golf cars...if you go back through some of the posts you'll see what I mean.

We live in a golf car friendly community also, and have our own golf car which we use for puttering around as well as playing golf!

  10. Brisbane is one of my most favorite vacation spots. I go there once every two years with my family. But I haven't been into this wonderful historic house. At first glance, I thought this structure was new, but it turned out to be amazingly historic. It looks so fine and well-maintained. I want to have that kind of house -- with dramatic colors, wrought iron doors, and a very dramatic setting that will look like a historic one also.

  11. This was such a classic and very dramatic house! Does someone live in here? I love living in a classic and simple home. The doors and walls remind me of my grandma's home in Arlington. I also have a classy home here in Arlington. Doors and roofing are replaced for a more dramatic effect.
